Matthew grew up in Corning, New York which is a small town in upstate New York. Matthew graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland with a BS degree in education and minor in finance in 1997. Upon graduating, Matthew moved his family to Lexington, North Carolina to begin his teaching career. Longing to live near the coast, after two years of teaching he moved to Chesapeake, VA and soon found his final career path as a mortgage loan originator.
In 2001, Matthew was hired by National City Mortgage where he learned the mortgage business. After two years, Matthew made a move to Wells Fargo Home Mortgage where he stayed until the end of 2008. Since them, Matthew has worked for multiple lenders and has teamed with Kelly Cordero since 2010. Matthew has built a solid foundation of past clients that continually look to him for guidance with new mortgages.
Mr. Underwood has a long record of succesfully guiding homebuyers through purchasing first homes, second homes and also refinancing their homes. Matthew annually closes $15,000,000-$20,000,000. His specific area of expertise is VA Loans with upwards of 70% of his clients being active duty military or former military. FHA clients make up an additional 20% of his business with the remaining being conventional clients.
Matthew specializes in applying his expertise and knowledge with Realtor partners. He is constantly updating his realtor partners on current market conditions, current interest rates and new changes to loan programs. This partnership has allowed his realtor partners to florish. Matthew consistantly looks to exceed both clients and realtors expections throughout the loan process.
In Matthew’s spare time volunteers for his children’s soccer teams. He is also passionate about golfing and looks to hit the links every chance he gets. Matthew also fishes the Chesapeake Bay with friends when the opportunity arrises. Most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.
