John Barbee

John brings to CBM Mortgage the cumulative knowledge of his 35+ year mortgage banking career that began right after he graduated from James Madison University in 1985.

As a seasoned mortgage banker, John’s experience ranges from providing testimony to the FHFA, co-authoring underwriting guidelines as a Senior Credit Officer, and managing an entire mortgage division. But John’s greatest accomplishments have been in the arena of corporate growth and development. Prior to joining CBM his successes included growing an organization's production platform by over 400%. And at CBM, each new production center to John’s team quickly learns that he genuinely cares about people and their personal and professional development and about achieving excellence in Mortgage Banking.

In a recent Lunch and Learn, John was quoted as saying “I am a people person by nature. I try to live my personal life in a way that shows respect and honor to the people I get to walk beside in this journey we call life. And, this is why I love Mortgage Banking. It is first and foremost a people business. We have lawmakers, shareholders, co-workers, business partners, and customers… we have people everywhere. We get to do transactions and hopefully lots of them, but the business is about people; their lives, their values, their goals, and dreams… transactions don’t have the real-value, people have the real-value. Respect and honor people (and the roles they play) and transactions will happen.”

When John is not working, he enjoys traveling with his wife and family. He is also actively involved in his church, and loves doing nearly anything outdoors on a warm sunny day (which often involves working in his vegetable garden).
